This page explains what data we collect when you use breakingb2b.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email sam@samdunning.org.
Who we are
Breaking B2B is a B2B and SaaS SEO agency based in the United Kingdom, run by Sam Dunning. We are the data controller for the personal data described on this page.
What we collect and why
Things you give us
- Booking a call. Your name, email address, company and anything you type into the booking form. We use it to run the call and follow up. Bookings are handled by Calendly. We also pass your email, name and the campaign tags on the link you arrived from to Outfound, so we can tell which of our outreach led to the call.
- Newsletter and playbook signups. Your email address, and your name if you give it. We use it to send you what you asked for and our newsletter. Every email carries an unsubscribe link. Signups are handled by Mailchimp, and your email and the campaign tags on the link you arrived from are also passed to Outfound for the same reason as bookings.
- Emailing us. Whatever you put in the email. We keep it for as long as the conversation is useful.
Our lawful basis for the above is taking steps at your request before a contract, and our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us.
Things we measure
- Site analytics. We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages people read and where they arrive from. Google sets cookies on this site for that purpose.
- Our own attribution measurement. When you arrive on the site we store a random identifier in your browser and send it to our own database with the page you landed on, the site that referred you, and any campaign tags in the address. We do this once per visit, and again if you come back from a campaign link or another website. It tells us which channels lead to enquiries. It does not include your name, email or anything you type. You can turn it off below.
- Marketing attribution. We use Sourcemetrics to connect enquiries to the marketing channel they came from.
- Company identification. We use RB2B, which can match a visit to a person or company for visitors in the United States. It does not identify visitors from the UK or EU. If you are identified, we may use that information to reach out about our services.
Our lawful basis for measurement is our legitimate interest in understanding how people find and use the site so we can spend our marketing budget sensibly. You can object at any time using the controls below, or by emailing us.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the services that run this site and our business, each of which processes it on our instructions:
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site
- Supabase, which stores our attribution measurement
- Google, for analytics and tag management
- Sourcemetrics and RB2B, for the measurement described above
- Calendly and Mailchimp, for bookings and email
- Outfound, for matching bookings and signups to our outreach
Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where data leaves the UK we rely on the provider's standard contractual clauses or the UK's data bridge.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and booking details: as long as we are in contact, then up to two years.
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics and attribution data: up to two years.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to our use of it, or ask us to restrict it. Email sam@samdunning.org and we will reply within a month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Turn our measurement off
Our own attribution measurement respects the Global Privacy Control setting in your browser. You can also switch it off here. The setting is stored in this browser only, so you will need to repeat it on other devices.
Checking your setting…
For Google Analytics, install Google's opt-out browser add-on or block cookies for this site in your browser. RB2B and Sourcemetrics each offer their own opt-out on their websites.
Changes
If we change how we use data we will update this page and the date at the top.
